ETHNICITY OF GUYANA

The population of Guyana is approximately 730,000. Five main ethnic groups of the following proportion live and work in harmony, namely:

• East Indian origin - 52%
• African origin - 33%
• Amerindians - 4%
• Chinese, Portuguese and mixed - 11%.

Whatever the ethnic background, Guyanese are all one. Our moto: One People, One Nation, One Destiny, testifies to the truth of our unity.
