The Death of a loved one:
Recently, the only son of the Assistant Pastor of our Church died
following a very tragic accident. This young man was only
nineteen years of age. He was a diploma student of one of our
country's Technical Institutes, and was travelling to go to
school when this terrible tragedy occurred. His death was one
among two young men: both from the same church.
My life, as their pastor was shaken. Not to mention the parents
of the two young men. The entire Church congregation, Christian
community and the town of Linden was devastated by this sad
occurrence.
Many questions were asked, not to mentions the sarcastic remarks
thrown into the face of the Church and God by the ungodly.
I came face to face with the question, "Why do bad things
happen to good people?" Many believers were asking,
"What is God saying to the Church?"
After examining this entire incident in the light of God's word,
I was forced to admit the following truths:-
- God is God and will always be God.
- God is eternal, but the days of men are numbered - we dare not choose our lot.
- As Job said, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh, blessed be the name of the Lord.
- All things work together for Good to them that Love God and are called according to His purpose.
This pastor lost his only son. His dreams
were shattered. Nothing will ever replace the emptiness that now
is. But I like his testimony. He said that he didn't ask God,
"why?", but rather, "what's next Lord?" He
honestly believed that God has a divine purpose, and he is
willing to submit to God's grand design.
I am reminded of the words of Georgia Harkness, in The Dark Night
of the Soul, she said, "The Christian faith imparts meaning
to life. A living faith that is centered in God as revealed in
Christ takes our chaotic, disorganized selves, with their crude
jumble of pleasures and pains, and knit them into a steadiness
and joy that can endure anything with God."
I honestly do believe those words.
......Pray for this Pastor and the other relatives whose lives
were devastated by this tragedy.
